Wheelchair types

There are several different types of wheelchairs.

Transport

The first type is the transport wheelchairs. These are going to be the wheelchairs that other people are going to have to push since the user will not be able to propel themselves. This is because of the small back wheel that the user is not going to be able to grip. Most of the time, you are going to be able to find them at medical officers or hospitals. But if you are going to need to store the wheelchair in the car or in the house, then it will be perfect for you.

Standard Manual

The second type is the standard manual wheelchair. These wheelchairs are going to have larger back wheels on them with a push rim so that the user is going to be able to grip them when they are trying to propel themselves. This is great for a person who has control of the upper limbs that they will use to propel. They are also going to be fold-able so that they can be stored when the person is not using them.

Heavy Duty

The third type is the heavy duty and bariatric manual wheelchairs. This is going to be for the larger people that are going to need a heavy duty wheelchair that will be able to accommodate their weight and size. The frame is going to be more sturdy and the seats are wider. These means that it can support up to 700 lbs. It might also be able to recline so that it can distribute the person’s weight a little better.

Light

The fourth type is the light and ultra lightweight wheelchairs. Of course, this wheelchair is going to weight a lot less than some of the other wheelchairs since they weight about 25 to 30 lbs. Therefore, if you are going to be traveling with your wheelchair, this is the one who are going to want to get. It is also going to have a large black wheel that the user can use to propel themselves but also the grips so that other people will be able to push them. It is not going to have a seat that is cushioned and will be upholstered in nylon.

Sports

The fifth type is the sports wheelchairs. This is the wheelchair for the people who enjoy activities like basketball, rugby, or other off pavement activities. This is because the wheelchair can be maneuvered a lot better than some of the other types of wheelchairs. Plus it can be customized based on the activity that you want to do.

Pediatric

The sixth type is the pediatric wheelchairs. These are the wheelchairs that are going to be made just for children. This means that they are going to have a small frame with a seat that is shallow or narrow. They will have grip handles that are going to adjust to a certain height that will be comfortable enough for another adult to push the chair.
